IDM 2022 season starts for Markus Reiterberger

The International German Motorcycle Championship is the series in which the top riders compete at world-class level. Many champions in recent years have been promoted to a world championship. So does the multiple IDM Superbike champion Markus Reiterberger. Last year the Bavarian celebrated his IDM comeback for a few races with the BCC Racing team. In 2022, following the merger of BCC Racing and the Alpha-Van Zon-BMW team, he is now back competing full-time.

This coming weekend, from May 6th to 8th, the IDM will start the new season at the Lausitzring in Germany. The facility in the south of Lower Lusatia is Germany's youngest race track and it demands a high level of technical ability and skill from the riders.

In the Superbike premier class, the fight between the brands is raging and it's all about prestige. Almost 25 riders, including Markus Reiterberger, will start in the class. The new season comprises seven events in four countries, each with two races per weekend, until the new champion is crowned at the Hockenheimring in Germany, in September.

Last weekend "Reiti" visited the Lausitzring for the first official IDM test in the new BCC-Alpha-Van Zon-BMW Team, together with his teammates Jan Mohr (AUT), Pepijn Bijsterbosch (NED) and Kamil Krzemień (POL) .

Markus Reiterberger:

“The first test in Lusatia was very successful for us. We were already testing in Valencia, Spain, but it constantly rained there. That was good for the rain setup, but riding in dry conditions here at the Lausitzring was also very important. With great weather and sunshine, we were able to open the throttle right from the start. On Saturday we first worked out the brake pads and brake discs. However, I had some aggressive slides and a very stubborn bike in the first few laps. But then my crew around Werner Daemen got it under control and in the end I was able to set very good lap times. Unfortunately, the track becomes more wavy from year to year. The layout is great fun, but the amount of bumps reduce the riding fun a lot. Nevertheless, we had a good test here. Of course we can add a little more. In any case, the whole team is looking forward to the season finally starting again and to a great weekend. Above all, finally our fans can return again.”
