Hard work for Guardian Angel and the Team, which was ultimately rewarded with second place

Der vierte Event auf dem EuroMoto-Kalender fand am vergangenen Wochenende in der The fourth event on the EuroMoto calendar took place last weekend at the Motorsportarena in Oschersleben. Markus Reiterberger had approached the weekend with great optimism following his positive test at the circuit the previous season. Unfortunately, some of the problems Reiti had already experienced at Most were still evident. Nevertheless, he finished Friday’s practice sessions with top-three results. On Saturday, he made it straight into Superpole 2, which he finished in fifth place.

Starting from fifth on the grid, Reiti was determined to go on the attack in the two main races of the EuroMoto Superbike class and finish on the podium at the very least. He got off to a good start in the first race and was quickly able to catch up with the group ahead of him, moving within striking distance of a podium place. However, an engine failure suffered by the Dutch rider Twan Smits, who was directly ahead of him, dashed his hopes of a podium finish in Race One, as Reiterberger was thrown violently to the ground in a spectacular pile-up caused by oil on the track; Race One came to an abrupt end on lap six for the 32-year-old and several of his rivals. The BMW M 1000RR crashed heavily into the grass several metres further on, just before the spectator area. Continuing the race was out of the question due to the ‘one-bike’ rule. Fortunately, none of the riders involved were injured.

The Masteroil Alpha Van Zon BMW Team worked wonders by getting a completely new bike ready for the rider from Obing in time for the start of the race. Reiti felt comfortable on the bike right from the start and finished the second race in second place, securing a spot on the podium. A welcome consolation for what was, once again, a mixed weekend. Now it’s time to put our heads together once more and continue working on solutions until we head to Assen in the Netherlands from 14 to 16 August 2026.

Markus Reiterberger:

“I have to say, the start of the weekend wasn’t particularly encouraging. My team and I really gave it our all to make the bike – and me – faster and better. But my positions kept getting worse from practice session to practice session. Then we made a few more adjustments during Sunday’s warm-up, and that worked well. In the first race, I was already able to catch up with the others. But then there was an engine failure in front of me and I went down hard. The bike flew right into the spectators and was, unfortunately, a write-off. My team then built me a completely new bike in time for the second race, with which I got off to a good start and was even able to match the pace of (Lukas) Tulovic on the Ducati almost exactly. That’s why second place almost feels like a win after a weekend like this. We were ultimately able to make some good progress and now know what we need to do to curb the Ducati’s dominance a little. I’m infinitely grateful to my team and my guardian angel for what they achieved this weekend. It was really hard work.
