Reiterberger finishes EuroMoto season in third place overall

Markus Reiterberger was able to carry the momentum from his World Endurance Championship title, secured last weekend at Le Castellet in France, into the EuroMoto Championship, which held its final round of the season at the Hockenheimring this weekend.

Things were already looking good for Reiti and the Masteroil Alpha Van Zon BMW Team during Friday’s practice sessions. The 32-year-old topped the timesheets in the second free practice session and secured third place in the Superpole pre-practice. After making a few adjustments to the BMW M 1000 RR, the Obing-based rider managed to secure pole position for Sunday’s two Superbike races with a new lap record, leading a front row made up entirely of BMW M 1000 RR motorbikes.

Reiterberger led the race from start to finish and secured the long-awaited victory ahead of Marcel Schrötter (Gert56 – also on a BMW) and Florian Alt (Holzhauer Honda). This meant that no one could now challenge him for third place overall in the EuroMoto Championship, as the rider vying for that position, Twans Smits, did not line up at the start in Hockenheim. Markus Reiterberger also got off to a good start in the second race and led the field for a few corners until he lost control on the first lap and had to swerve into the gravel trap. Unfortunately, this saw him drop back to 14th place, and he was only able to fight his way back up to tenth by the end of the second race. However, following the initial difficulties in this year’s EuroMoto Championship, the bronze medal is more than a consolation.

We wish EuroMoto champion Lukas Tulovic (on a Ducati) and Marcel Schrötter (BMW) in second place all the best. Reiti would like to thank his many fans, his fan club, friends and family, all his supporters and sponsors, and, of course, his wonderful team, who have backed him so wholeheartedly this year and once again gave their all here at the Hockenheimring. And now it’s time to celebrate this achievement in style.

Markus Reiterberger:

“We’d had a really great weekend right up until my slip in the opening lap of the second race. We managed to secure the long-awaited victory in the first race, starting from pole position. That was almost perfect. After the slip in the second race, I was at least able to bring the bike home in the top ten. Apart from that, it was a really great, but also very exhausting, weekend here at the Hockenheimring. It’s absolutely incredible how many people were there to support me. The emotions have been very intense this week. First the World Championship title in the Endurance World Championship, then the brilliant welcome back in my home town of Obing, and then so many people here at the Hockenheimring who came to congratulate me, wanted to chat to me, or expressed their appreciation. There really was a lot going on. I’m really pleased that we ultimately managed to make it onto the overall podium in the EuroMoto as well. My team really is the best, and I’d like to thank them for never giving up and for always finding something that helped me. I really appreciate that. And now it’s time to raise a proper toast.”
