EWC season finale: Markus Reiterberger and BMW aim for victory at the Bol d'Or!

In the FIM Endurance World Championship 2024 (FIM EWC), the battle for the world title will be decided next weekend (12 to 15 September). The 24-hour classic Bol d'Or in Le Castellet marks the season finale, and the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team with Markus Reiterberger is one of the teams that can clinch the title. The BMW Motorrad Motorsport works squad led by team manager Werner Daemen is in third place in the world championship standings ahead of the finale, 44 points behind the leaders. A total of 65 points can still be collected on the final race weekend of the season.

In the saddle of the #37 BMW M 1000 RR of the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, Reiti alternates with his team-mates Ilya Mikhalchik and Hannes Soomer. The fourth BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team rider at Le Castellet will be Jan-Ole Jähnig, who competes in the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) with Team GERT56.

During the break between the events in Suzuka and Le Castellet, Reiti helped the WSBK test team with development work. During tests in Italy, the 30-year-old from Obing rode the motorbike from the World Championship and provided BMW with important experience for the development of the M 1000 RR. Reiti will be back on the EWC version this weekend and wants to fight with his team-mates for victory and the still possible world championship title.

On the Tuesday before the final weekend, the teams and riders had another opportunity to work on the preparation of the motorbikes during private test rides in Le Castellet. The official sessions of the race weekend begin on Thursday (12 September) with free practice, the first qualifying sessions and night practice. The starting positions will be decided on Friday (13 September) in the second part of qualifying. The 87th edition of the Bol d'Or starts on Saturday (14 September) at 3 pm, with the finish 24 hours later.

Markus Reiterberger:

“The test went very well. Right from the start, we had a good pace, and I was faster than my best race pace from last year. The bike felt good from the first laps, but we also tried a few things and found a good direction. My teammates also set great lap times, and especially Hannes, who had never ridden at Le Castellet before, and Jan-Ole, adapted well to the bike. We accomplished and sorted out a lot on the first day. Now we’re heading into race weekend with excitement. We’re well-prepared, the track suits us and our BMW M 1000 RR. Things are looking good, and we have one goal: we want to win and claim the possible world championship title. Although it’s difficult to achieve the title on our own, nothing is impossible. We’ll just try to get the maximum out of the weekend and leave the rest to race fate, which always plays a big role in the EWC. Us riders and the team are highly motivated to finish the season in the best possible way.”
