Land submerged in Misano, but Reiti takes championship-point home

What was annoying yesterday, was missing in the WorldSBK-paddock in Misano today - the sun! Markus Reiterberger was surprised when the rain was pouring down on day two of the Pata Riviera di Rimini round at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli today. It did not bother him at first, as because of the test that took place at this circuit two weeks ago under similar conditions the 25-years-old meant to be well prepared.

Starting from fourth row in 12th position was not the best qualification for the first race this afternoon. At the first start „Reiti“ was not able to see much due to the water stir from the riders starting in front of him. The race was red-flagged due to the amount of water that pooled at some areas of the track. After the track was cleaned, the second start into the race went much better. Reiterberger was able to catch up some positions, but lost them again because of an excursion into the gravel. But the Bavarian eventually takes home one championship point. Teammate Tom Sykes finished in second position and achieved the first podium place for the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team and their new BMW S 1000 RR today.

Markus Reiterberger #28, P15: „I was quite surprised this morning when I saw that it was raining. But I was delighted at first, as the test here in the rain was really good. I did my best during the Superpole. Unfortunately it was only enough for the 12th grid position. We still have to work on the bike and on my riding style to be able to stay with the group. The wet race was really disappointing. I lost some positions during the first race, because I could not see anything, caused by the bad starting position. I was able to catch up some positions at the second start, but while overtaking Toprak (Razgatlioglu) I got on the white line, made a mistake while braking and had to take a little excursion into the gravel. I just wanted to finish the race then and fortunately took one point home. It has been disappointing today, especially that I felt so unwell during the rain this time and we will need to find out now what was the reason. My congratulations go to Tom (Sykes) for this fantastic result and to BMW for their first podium place. They really deserve it.“
