The 2024 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) season kicks off this weekend and Markus Reiterberger (Onexox BMW TKKR Racing), who won the Superbike class title last year, will once again be taking part. The decision to compete in Asia again was literally made at the last second.
Immediately after the EWC test in Jerez, Reiti received the go-ahead from the organisers and set off for Thailand. This week, last season's champion is preparing for the start of the season at the official test together with his crew before the first of six race weekends takes place at the Chang International Circuit this weekend.
Reiti has very fond memories of the MotoGP track, as he celebrated a top five finish in the WorldSBK season 2016. He also battled for victory in both races at the 2023 ARRC season finale and won the final race.
The ARRC races are broadcast live on the racing series' YouTube channel.
Markus Reiterberger:
"For a long time in the winter, it was uncertain whether I would be able to defend my title in Asia. The problem was the many clashes with the World Endurance Championship, which is also my clear priority this year. After consulting with the ARRC series organisers, we found a compromise together with the team literally at the last minute and I travelled to Thailand quite spontaneously. Due to the short preparation time, we had to improvise with regard to the crew. There will be a longer break before the second event, during which we can reorganise ourselves. But for now I'm looking forward to the season opener in Buriram. I like riding in Asia because we are on really great race tracks here and the weather conditions usually play into our hands. I like travelling in this part of the world."
