Best lap time ever for Reiterberger at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit
Markus Reiterberger finished the first practice day of the Yamaha Finance Australian Round of the WorldSBK season in eighth position overall and is satisfied with the result. The STK 1000 European Champion of 2018 was able to implement the perception he obtained during the testing of the last week today at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and could establish himself inside the Top Ten. During the first free practice the Bavarian was even able to hold on to fourth position for a while and his best lap time of today is already faster than the WorldSBK lap record from last year.
The target for the second day of the MOTUL FIM Superbike world championship is to maintain the work on the grip-level of the BMW S 1000 RR and to take the excellent performance of the morning hours also into the afternoon.
Markus Reiterberger #28; P8: “Today was a good day and I am really satisfied with how things went, especially during the first session this morning. I had my best lap time then and that was six tenth of a second in front of my best time during testing. I was able to hold onto fourth position for quite a while, but then Tom (Sykes) overtook me. I think the sixth position is good to start with. The second session was a bit more difficult in general, also because the rear-grip left us again. But we will continue to work on that and try to find a solution tomorrow. Generally I am happy. My team was great again and they tried to get whatever it takes to make me comfortable. Also my shoulder didn’t fret me as much today. Of course the long left-handers aren’t making it any better, but I am in control of that.”
