Laguna Seca - An impressive racetrack
Markus Reiterberger has recovered as good as possible after his heavy influenza illness and travelled to California this week, to one of the most spectacular racetracks in the world - the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, only two hours by car in the south of San Francisco. It is the venue for the ninth and last round of the FIM MOTUL WorldSBK championship before the long summer break.
The first free practice day of the Geico U.S. Round of the Superbike world championship did not go to plan for the 25-years-old and many things still have to be optimized. The set up of the BMW S 1000 RR does not suit the young Bavarian yet to show his full potential on the Superbike and he finished the first practice day in 16th overall. Regarding the lap time „Reiti“ was able to improve his morning time by one full second, but grip problems still prevent him from setting faster lap times. The settings will be adjusted once again for the Superpole qualifying on Saturday.
Markus Reiterberger #28, P16: „Laguna Seca is a fantastic racetrack. I love it here. The FP1 this morning was not easy for me. I had to learn the new track and find the correct setting to help me get more comfortable on the bike. That did not go to plan. We made some changes for FP2 which helped and we went a full second faster than what we did in FP1 which is great progress, however we are still some pace from where we want to be. I was not able to show my full potential on the BMW bike yet. Tomorrow we will have another go and hopefully we can make another step forward in qualifying and the race.“
